Letter: Find fix for immigration problems

Seems every presidential election cycle brings the subject of illegal immigration to the forefront. As a senior, I can’t remember any positive and long-lasting solutions to the problem. Seems to be a subject that is more of a campaign ploy by both parties than a search for a solution. And it’s not a simple fix and will never be perfect.

It causes the most harm to the border states, financially, health care, housing and lack of jobs. I have no problem if they want a fence along the parts of the border that really make sense. I liken it to permanently removing the front door to your home and taking down your fences, then see how long it takes before you have unwanted company. I bet you’d be calling the police.

Most seem to coming here because of a lack of employment. So why are we giving manufacturing jobs and trade to China instead of legislating these jobs to Central America? Instead of buying something that says “Made In China,” why not “Made In Mexico”? After all, China’s financial health is not in our best interest.

Now let’s give our new neighbors the best chance to seek out the American Dream.
