Letter: Protect Social Security

By James Barhitte, Ridgefield

Did I hear right that Social Security does not have to pay you back? In the court case Flemming v. Nestor: Nestor lost, so the government does not have to pay you back your money you paid into it. This was done back in 1960.

No wonder we keep hearing that Social Security is going broke. The government has spent that money. Why has there not been something done about this? Both parties have been dipping their hands into the honey jar. What did they do with all that money?

Will our elected officials pass House Resolution 521 into law? That is the Social Security Guarantee Act. If this is not put into law, the government could reduce our Social Security check by the cost of living each year. If the politicians don’t pass HR 521, we will need to vote them out of office.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
