Letter: Allow nonlethal police restraints

The Washington Senate unanimously approved a ban on hog-tying by police (The Associated Press, Feb. 6). My observations of this procedure are that its usage is well-deserved as documented by plentiful bodycam evidence. As nonlethal restraint measures become prohibited, lethal options or nonenforcement of laws escalate. It also encourages resistance to any compliance. This is a further push in the “defund the police” effort where a custody death (chokehold: George Floyd) was portrayed as true, regardless of official autopsy findings.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
