Brady Angelo scored a game-high 26 points and the Seton Catholic boys basketball team closed out the 1A District 4 title from the free-throw line to beat Tenino 67-63 on Saturday at Hoquiam.
The Cougars (17-5) were 6 for 8 from the line in the final minute of the game to hold off the Beavers (14-5), which had a 10-game win streak end.
Seton’s win streak is at 13 games as it awaits announcement on Sunday of the regional round of state pairings.
Angelo had has many points as Tenino midway through the second quarter, as the Cougars led 32-16.
The Beavers closed out the first half on a 9-0 run to make it 34-25.
Angelo scored the first four points of the third quarter and Mason Glassmire had five points in a row to give the Cougars a 14-point lead at 43-29.
After a basket by Lance Lee had Seton ahead at 48-34 with 3:06 to play, the Beavers began to chew at the 14-point deficit. They would finish the quarter on a 9-0 run to make it a 50-47 game.
Seton would not relinquish its advantage, but it got close. With 3:43 to play, the Cougars lead was down to 53-51 and inside of 2 minutes to play it was 58-56.
Angelo then hit a deep 3-pointer and on the next possession got fouled and made 1 of 2 free throws to push Seton ahead 62-56 with 53 seconds remaining.
To help seal the game, Lee was 3 for 4 from the line in the final seconds and Kaiden Wilson made two free throws and all that was left to do was cut down the nets.
Wilson finished with 12 points and was 6 for 8 on free throws.
Noah Schow led Tenino with 25 points, and Austin Gonia had 20. Tenino was 13 for 16 from the line.
