Talan Leon Guerrero of Hudson’s Bay is Week 18 prep athlete of the week, sponsored by Killer Burger

Guerrero outdistanced Dez Daniel of Evergreen to win honor.

Hudson’s Bay wrestler Talan Leon Guerrero is The Columbian 2023-24 Week 18 high school athlete of the week, sponsored by Killer Burger.

Guerrero received 46 percent of the 17,669 votes cast this week to beat out Dez Daniel of Evergreen for the weekly honor.

Guerrero won the 190-pound division at the 2A regional tournament. He has outscored his foes 46-1 during the postseason.

Winners of the athlete-of-the-week may not be nominated again during the regular season, and no athlete may be nominated in consecutive weeks.

Nominees are posted and voting begins each Monday and runs through Wednesday.

Here are the accomplishments of the other Week 18 nominees:

DEZ DANIEL, EVERGREEN BOYS BASKETBALL: The sophomore averaged 30 points a game over two games, including a 41-point game in a playoff win over Yelm.

RILEY SEYMER, SETON CATHOLIC: The sophomore scored 13 points and 24 points in two playoff wins for the state-bound Cougars.

LINCOLN SWIFT, RIDGEFIELD BOYS SWIMMING: Swift won the 200 individual medley and the 500 freestyle at the 2A-1A district meet at Mark Morris.

ALIYHA VARGAS, WASHOUGAL GIRLS WRESTLING: Vargas captured the 140-pound division at the 2A-1A regional meet with two pins and a 15-0 technical fall in the final.
