Letter: Make room for emergency vehicles

Reading the article about Sue Marshall serving as a firefighter for a day and her comments about “how hairy it can be to navigate through traffic in a roughly 30-foot-long fire engine” struck a chord with me (“Clark County Councilor Sue Marshall spends day with Fire District 6 to get up-close look at work,” The Columbian, Feb. 1).

Today while driving down Columbia Street, which is the “bike friendly” street that no longer has any on-street parking, I was forced with trying to pull over for an emergency vehicle coming toward me. I simply had to just stop in the traffic lane. There is nowhere to pull over on Columbia now that it has armadillos in place to protect the bike lanes. Did anyone think of this scenario during the planning stages?
