Letter: Modern TV is cursed

By Jim Armstrong, Vancouver

Why is there so much foul language in television dramas these days? Like, every second sentence in every second episode features frequent use of the F word. Do the shows’ writers think this makes their shows more realistic, more relevant, more with it? Back in the day, the likes of Spencer Tracy, John Wayne, Gregory Peck, Paul Newman, Katharine Hepburn, Elizabeth Taylor and Maureen O’Hara survived very long movie careers without ever having to resort to swear words. Are we that much better off today?

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
