IMAGE — The SkillsUSA SW Region welding competition was held at Kelso High School on Jan. 31. Thirty-two students from 12 high schools competed in a variety of timed activities designed to test their skills. Competitive activities included a written test, measuring gauges, oxy-fuel cutting processes, gas metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding and shielded metal arc welding while following proper safety requirements.
The 2024 Southwest Washington winners are: regional champion Carter Huff, Kelso High School; silver medalist Tucker Salisbury, Kelso High School; and bronze medalist Steven Jacka, Cascadia Tech Academy.
They will go on to the state competition held on March 22 at Clover Park Technical College in Tacoma.
