Boys basketball: Aaron Hoey scores 21 to lead Columbia River to 74-67 win over Black Hills

Aaron Hoey scored 21 points to lead four Rapids in double figures as the Columbia River boys basketball team beat Black Hills of Tumwater 74-67 in a first-round game Saturday in the Class 2A district tournament.

Miles Fitzwilson scored 13 points and Ari Richardson and Nico Valdez added 12 each for River, which will face W.F. West of Chehalis in the district semifinals on Tuesday in Longview.

RIDGEFIELD 59, TUMWATER 56 — Colten Castro scored 19 points and Cole Chester added 18 as the Spudders advanced to the 2A district semifinals with a win in Tumwater.

Ridgefield jumped out to a 22-10 lead after the first quarter, then fended off a Tumwater rally.

MARK MORRIS 80, HOCKINSON 58 — The 2A Greater St. Helens League champion Monarch rolled past Hockinson into the district semifinals.

Hockinson will face Tumwater on Tuesday in a loser-out game in Longview.

W.F. WEST 53, R.A. LONG 46 — The Lumberjacks fell into the loser-out bracket with a first-round loss in Chehalis.

SKYVIEW 44, BELLARMINE 40 — Demaree Collins hits two big 3-pointers in a pivotal 15-1 run late that propel Skyview in a 4A bi-district loser-out game at Skyview.

Leading 24-19 at halftime, Skyview could not get much going in the second half and trailed 37-29 with 5:50 to play.

That’s when the Storm came alive to rally past Bellarmine. Collins hit a 3-pointer with 1:15 to play that put Skyview up four.

Collins finished with 17 points, and Malakai Weimer added 15.

“Malakai Weimer did a great job carrying the offense for stretches and owned the boards,” Skyview coach Matt Gruhler said. “Jaxson filler did a great job on their best player, Dylan Wiggins with great defensive pressure all game.

Skyview will play at Sumner in another loser-out game on Wednesday.

OLYMPIA 49, CAMAS 46 — The Papermakers lost in a winner-to-state game at home Saturday.

Camas (14-9) will host Rogers of Puyallup in a loser-out game in the 4A district playoffs on Wednesday.

CURTIS 83, BATTLE GROUND 51 — The Tigers saw their season come to an end with a loss in the 4A bi-district playoffs.

AUBURN MOUNTAINVIEW 58, PRAIRIE 54 — Prairie ran out of gas late in a 3A bi-district loser-out game in Auburn.

Carson Morningstar had eight points in the third quarter as Prairie reversed a 27-24 halftime deficit into a 46-41 lead.

But the Falcons only hit two field goals in the fourth quarter, allowing Auburn Mountainview to rally and win.

Morningstar led Prairie with 18 points, and Solomon Ogbeama had 11.
