Letter: Save the puppies

As a pet owner I can see all the health damages overbreeding is causing to dogs. The issue is that overbreeding dogs causes problems to those involved. Dogs’ lives are being affected by putting them in pain. Research shows that dogs are being overbred in puppy mills; The Purple Tide states, “There are about 500,000 dogs kept in puppy mills just for breeding alone.”

Not everyone believes this is a big issue. The World Animal Foundation found from the Humane Society, “Currently, there are 16 states in the U.S. that don’t have any puppy mills-related laws.” When the puppies don’t get adopted, PETA said, “A puppy mill operator in New York used a makeshift gas chamber to kill 93 dogs and puppies.”

They are being subjected to pain. The issues with selective breeding are head, body and skin problems. People fighting this issue are the Humane Society and The Purple Tide. They are fighting to bring awareness to overbreeding in puppy mills. Save the pups. Adopt don’t shop.
