Letter: GOP wants chaos at border

The political cartoon on the Jan. 30 Opinion page perfectly depicts where the issue of America’s southern border sits at this moment in time. James Lankford, Oklahoma’s conservative Republican senator, has worked tirelessly to hammer out a workable compromise on the border issue with colleagues on both sides of the aisle and many Republican senators approve the bill. Moreover, passing this bill would also finally provide desperately needed military aid to Ukraine as that country enters its third year of battling its neighboring tyrant.

What’s preventing the deal from becoming law? Donald Trump and his lackeys in the House don’t want the border issue to go away. With the stock market at record highs, unemployment near an all-time low and the U.S. economy chugging along, what issue other than a messy border could the Trumpers run on?
