Letter: Protect environment, reject I-2117

By Jean M. Avery, Vancouver
Published: February 6, 2024, 6:00am

As someone who treasures our beautiful natural surroundings, I was saddened to read two articles about how we treat — rather, mistreat — our forests and our air (“Increase in vandalism, illegal dumping and theft reported in Yacolt Burn,” The Columbian, Jan. 24; and “More data will help Vancouver make sense of report saying area is among hardest hit by air pollution,” The Columbian, Jan. 12).

With a reminder from Indigenous wisdom, “We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children.”

With respect for our environment, let’s keep the Climate Commitment Act. Please reject ballot Initiative 2117.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
