When Clark Public Utilities offered its customers the opportunity to purchase shares in the Community Solar East project last fall, I jumped at the chance to invest in clean energy. So did many others; I heard that the residential shares sold out in less than two hours.
Community Solar was a better investment for me than cutting down the trees around my house to gain sufficient sun exposure to make rooftop solar feasible. I get utility bill solar credits while keeping my shade.
Clean energy is important to me because science shows that climate change poses an existential threat to two-thirds of North American birds. I want to protect both our wild birds and people from the worst impacts of a warming climate.
The legislature is currently considering the Fair Access to Community Solar Act (HB 2253/SB 6113), which would expand access to community solar energy for all Washingtonians. It aims to create a groundswell of solar projects that empower local communities and low-income Washingtonians to be part of the 100 percent clean energy transition. Subscribers can apply credits to their monthly electric bills.
I urge Clark Public Utilities and our legislators to support the Fair Access to Community Solar Act.
