HOCKINSON — More than 230 people attended the 12th annual free Seed Swap and Giveaway on Jan. 28 to benefit local gardeners and the North County Community Food Bank. The event has grown larger every year and is attended by new and experienced gardeners. The food bank received $100 in donations along with 870 pounds of food in four hours. The Hockinson School District’s Community Center is the swap’s third and, hopefully, permanent location.

Clark County Master Gardeners, Clark County Conservation District, Waste Connections’ Recycling Team, Clark Green Neighbors and Hockinson Heights Elementary Leadership students and advisers were on hand to answer questions and provide information and resources to the public.

Donations came from Territorial Seeds, Portland Nursery, Winona Grange, Prairie Moon Nursery, Wilco Farm Stores, KD Homestead and a core group of longtime volunteers, providing plenty of seeds for everyone. In addition to donations for the food bank, the community shared seeds, cuttings, divisions, bulbs, houseplants, catalogs, books and other supplies.
