Letter: Know candidate’s words

One candidate dominates the race for the Republican nomination for president this year. As a result, few voters are paying much attention to what that candidate says from day to day. But we mustn’t ignore that candidate, so as a public service I offer just one recent official statement (you can find more at donaldjtrump.com/news):

“In response to the Statement made by Pierre Delecto, I haven’t spoken to him (Mitt Romney!) in years, and he knows nothing about me, or my views. Fortunately, he will permanently be leaving the Senate soon, and our Country will be a better place for it. But, that being said, we need a Strong, Powerful, and essentially ‘PERFECT’ Border and, unless we get that, we are better off not making a Deal, even if that pushes our Country to temporarily ‘close up’ for a while, because it will end up closing anyway with the unsustainable Invasion that is currently taking place — A DEATH WISH for the U.S.A.!”

In just 107 words, the candidate trashed bipartisan congressional efforts to deal with an issue the GOP defines as a national crisis and insults the Republican who ran, honorably, for president in 2012.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
