Letter: Reverse Citizens United decision

Misgoverning has disastrously upset our economy, national debt and free enterprise. The GOP has severely undercut democratic capitalism and slid America toward cabals, monopoly capitalism and eventually oligarchic government.

Our Supreme Court’s undemocratic Citizens United decision and gerrymandering allowed the wealthy to buy elections and minority-vote legislatures to pass the Bush and Trump tax cuts, which enrich the wealthy and have added roughly $30 trillion to our national debt. Moneys unpaid as fair share taxes to our nation enabled wealthy Americans to buy stock holdings, patents and real estate. Debt and cabal conspiracies inflate prices on foods, housing, oil, natural gas, pharmaceuticals and other essentials.

America’s many cluttered legal systems with layers of confusing, overlapping and contradictory laws and regulations often prevent citizens from buying justice. In protracted litigations, the deep pockets can prevail when the less-endowed yield for lack of finances. The Trump family and others broke contracts and fledgling contractors with threatened and protracted litigations.

Putting America back on a path to democracy requires reversing the Citizens United decision and repealing the Bush and Trump tax cuts. Together Democrats and Republicans can revive democratic capitalism.
