Boys basketball roundup: Skyview holds off Evergreen in competitive season opener

Malakai Weimer had 25 points and 12 rebounds as Skyview held off Evergreen 69-62 to open its boys basketball season Tuesday with a tough road win.

The Storm won despite a standout game from Evergreen guard Dez Daniel, who scored 31 points.

Evergreen had the ball down 65-62 with one minute to play. But Skyview’s Gavin Packer drew a crucial charge and Weimer went 4 for 4 at the foul line in the final 45 seconds.

Zeno Calastas talled 11 points and six rebounds for Skyview.

Damarien Walden added 11 points for Evergreen (0-1).

PRAIRIE 88, BATTLE GROUND 61 — Carson Morningstar scored 33 points and the hot-shooting Falcons rolled to a non-league home win.

Malachi Patton scored 20 points and Jamir Jones added 16 points for Prairie, which led 54-24 at halftime.

Tre Cornelison and Brayden Andrews each scored 13 points for Battle Ground.

HERITAGE 83, HUDSON’S BAY 36 — Jose Zacarias scored a career-high 29 points as the Timberwolves rolled to a home win.

Zacarias, a senior, had 23 points in the first half as Heritage (1-0) led 47-14 at the half.

Kelden Carney scored 19 points to lead Hudson’s Bay (0-1).

UNION 57, STADIUM 42 — Kody Holcomb scored 12 points, Noah Jones added 11 and the Titans improved to 2-0 with a home win over the Tigers from Tacoma.

Six Union players scored seven or more points. The Titans led 28-14 at halftime.

FORT VANCOUVER 66, WASHOUGAL 52 — Josiah Jointer scored 18 points, Liam Cvitkovich added 10 points and the Trappers improved to 2-0 with a home win.

Fort Vancouver led 35-16 at halftime.

KALAMA 51, WOODLAND 42 — Gavin McBride scored 11 of his 18 points in the fourth quarter as the Chinooks pulled away for a season-opening home win.

With the game tied 32-32 after three quarters, McBride hit a 3-pointer early in the fourth to start Kalama’s surge.

Michael Belvin had 14 points and Jackson Gabbard added 12 points for Woodland (0-1).

The Beavers went 0 for 19 from 3-point range.

MARK MORRIS 75, ROCHESTER 26 — Dalton Stevens scored 20 points, Mac West added 15 points and the Monarchs won on the road to improve to 2-0.

GOLDENDALE 60, STEVENSON 36 — Brody Hatfield scored 23 points as the Timberwolves earned road win.

Stevenson (0-1) was shut out in the first quarter and trailed 25-15 at halftime. Goldendale put the game away by outscoring the Bulldogs 23-5 in the third quarter.

Jude Travinski led Stevenson with 10 points.
