Prep Roundup: Camas girls basketball opens title defense with win over Ridgefield

The Camas girls basketball team opened its defense of the Class 4A state championship with a 78-28 win over Ridgefield on Monday.

Keirra Thompson scored 19 points on 8 of 11 shooting from the field. The Camas senior point guard also dished out eight assists.

Sophie Buzzard scored 17 points, Lauren Hood had 14 points and Baylie Farra added 13 points as the host Papermakers shot 57 percent from the field.

Sava Chanda scored 14 points to lead Ridgefield (0-1).

MOUNTAIN VIEW 59, MARK MORRIS 34 — Sveva Bernasconi scored 21 points as the Thunder overcame a slow start for a season-opening home win.

With her team trailing 13-4 after the first quarter, Bernasconi scored 13 points of Mountain View’s 24 points in the second quarter as the Thunder led 28-19 at halftime.

Mylee Thompson added 11 points for Mountain View.

W.F. WEST 63, WOODLAND 31 — Dylan Boeck scored 22 points to help the Bearcats prevail at home.

Kennedy Bockert scored nine points to lead Woodland.

Boys basketball

MARK MORRIS 76, MOUNTAIN VIEW 69 — Dalton Stevens scored 38 points to lead the Monarchs to a win in new coach Ken Kelly’s debut.

Kelly took over after hall of fame coach Bill Bakamus announced his retirement after 32 seasons.

Tre’von Hughes-Farmer scored 16 points and Theo Sheron added 14 points for the visiting Thunder (1-1).

Stevens went 11 for 13 at the free throw line. Mark Morris made 13 of 16 free throws in the final quarter to keep Mountain View at bay.

Stars of the day

  • Taryn Albrecht, Fort Vancouver girls bowling, rolled a 411 (197-214) for the high score in the Trappers’ 1989-1878 win over R.A. Long.
  • Kaydree Rowland, Skyview girls bowling, led all bowlers by scoring 437 (256-181) in a 2233-1752 win over Evergreen.
  • Paisley Henderson, Mountain View girls bowling, had the high score of 338 (152-168) in a 1642-1246 win over Union.
  • Zuri Fagaale, Columbia River girls bowling, rolled a match-high 374 (198-176) as all five Rapids scored over 300 in a 1978-1780 win over Ridgefield.
  • Aleen Dhillon, Camas girls bowling, rolled 127-211 for the high score in a 1590-958 win over Heritage.
