Letter: Administration suppresses speech

By Bob Harper, Vancouver

Now comes Mark Zuckerberg (CEO of Meta, Facebook’s parent company) saying that in 2021 his company was pressured by the Biden-Harris administration to censor COVID-related posts, pressure to which he succumbed, though he now says it was wrong to do so. He also admits that it was wrong for Facebook to suppress stories about the Hunter Biden laptop, stories which were claimed by the FBI (falsely, as it turned out) to be “Russian disinformation.”

So now will someone please tell me who it is that is a “threat to our democracy”? Our republic (we are not a democracy, as anyone familiar with the Constitution should understand) is protected by the Bill of Rights, of which the First Amendment is arguably the most important. Apparently, there are some people who think the freedom of speech and of the press is optional, especially when it does not comport with their policy preferences.
