Death of man found in Skamania County’s Wind River appears accidental

A man was found dead Aug. 24 in the Wind River about 1,000 feet downriver from Shipherd Falls outside of Carson, according to the Skamania County Sheriff’s Office.

Due to hazardous conditions and the time of day, the man’s body couldn’t be immediately reached, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Skamania County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue volunteers with specialized swift water training and a volunteer from a kayaking guide service recovered the deceased man Aug. 25. The man’s body was taken to the Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy, the news release states.

The incident appears to be accidental, according to the news release.

The man’s identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin. The investigation is ongoing.
