It appears we are back in the hot seat so to speak as we will have a three-day run of 90 degree high temperatures. About 90 degrees today and near 95 degrees Friday and Saturday. If east winds persist, we could rise a couple degrees above 95 on Saturday. Regardless, it will feel hot enough for sure.
That weak cold front that moved through early in the morning on Tuesday brought 0.03 inch of rain to the official rain gauge in Vancouver, surprisingly more than I expected. Many residents around the county, especially to the north, received no measurable rain at all. Vancouver’s monthly total appears it will go into the record books with 0.69 of an inch for August. That amount is about 0.15 of an inch above average. We needed it.
After the upcoming heat wave, onshore flow of ocean air will lower temperatures Sunday into the mid- to upper 80s. The remainder of next week appears to have seasonal temperatures in the 75-to-80-degree range with no rain on tap as of this writing.
It was chilly Wednesday morning around the county with 47 degrees in Vancouver, cool but far from the record low of 37 degrees in 1980. Outlying areas had cooler temperatures in the low 40s and upper 30s. The coolest I could find were 35 degrees in Dole Valley and near Amboy. Those temperatures will slow the tomato harvest down a bit.
