Letter: Think about bridge alternatives

By Jim Blighton, VANCOUVER

Upon doing research into the funding process for bridges, one can soon realize that it is quite complicated. However, one thing becomes quite apparent — local metropolitan area bureaus, committees, commissions and other officials play a huge part in the outcome.

We could have had a new bridge by now had our officials taken fixed-rail public transportation off the Interstate 5 Bridge and moved it to the Glenn Jackson Bridge. Granted, this is only an opinion, but just think about it. We could have accomplished both for approximately $4 billion rather than still spending planning money with an estimated price tag of up to $6 billion, and we could be utilizing it.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
