Letter: Preserve Climate Commitment Act

By Lindsay Winsor, VANCOUVER
Published: August 29, 2024, 6:00am

“Everybody” knows that the Climate Commitment Act increased gasoline prices by 50 cents per gallon. That’s not correct. Extensive research shows that for 2023, the first year of the program, the impact was 25.7 cents per gallon, and it has gone down from there.

What will this buy for Clark County? We have $40 million in already authorized investments in transportation, home and school heating and efficiency improvements, and tribal-led projects with more to come.

We knew what we were doing for the well-being of Clark County when the Legislature voted for the Climate Commitment Act. Don’t vote to undo it now. Vote “no” on Initiative 2117.
