Letter: Bridge proposal is not scary

Brad Benton calls the new bridge a “one-way homelessness superhighway.” Joe Kent says, “It’s going to be the fentanyl, antifa expressway.” And John Ley does not want a “multimodal” bridge, whatever that is (“Could the November election spell trouble for the Interstate 5 Bridge replacement project?” The Columbian, Aug. 17).

Their solutions range from “something that works for us” or a third bridge that bypasses Portland’s urban core to building a federal bridge funded by the government so there are no tolls, etc. These guys are so original, using the same scare tactics from years ago, and solve nothing.

I don’t know how we reconcile the Coast Guard, Pearson Field, or possibly Portland International Airport, but I believe the current leaders are making a sincere effort to complete this project. That does not scare me at all.

What bothers me are the same obstructionist tactics that killed a bridge that would have been completed five years ago. The three wise guys are not wise, at all.
