Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce isn’t just scoring touchdowns but hole in ones, now that Adam Sandler’s confirmed the Super Bowl champ will “have a nice something” in the “Happy Gilmore” sequel.
The Brooklyn-born “Uncut Gems” star, 57, confirmed Tuesday that Kelce, 34, will appear in the hotly anticipated golf comedy sequel.
“Travis mentioned it and so we have a nice something for Travis. He’s gonna come by and he’s a very nice guy,” Sandler told “The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.”
In May, Kelce said on the “New Heights” podcast he hosts with brother Jason Kelce, that he’d do “anything” to have a hand in the follow-up to the 1996 Sandler staple.
“You guys would love him in real life, what a big handsome guy and funny and cool as hell,” the “50 First Dates” star said of Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. “He’s a stud and he’s so funny.”
The sequel was reported in March and formally announced by Netflix in May. Sandler noted that filming will start “in a couple of weeks” and will take place in New Jersey.
“It’s good. We worked hard on the script, man. We didn’t want to let anybody down,” said Sandler, noting that though people have long begged him for a second installment, he was certain it wouldn’t live up to expectations.
“But me and my buddy Tim Herlihy, we came up with this idea. We’re really excited about it.”
A fellow Brooklynite, Emmy-nominated “Saturday Night Live” writer Herlihy, also 57, is a longtime collaborator of Sandler’s. He’s written or co-written many of the latter’s most beloved films, among them “Happy Gilmore,” “Billy Madison,” and “The Wedding Singer.”
