Letter: Republicans defy logic

By Dan Heynen, VANCOUVER

Joe Biden is not allowed to step down at the age of 81? Tim Walz should not have retired from the National Guard as an acting command sergeant major after 24 years? Were they supposed to get permission from Donald Trump before making those personal decisions?

And then we have yet another letter from Robert Kerr (“Trump to the rescue,” Our Readers’ Views, Aug. 20) crudely insulting Vice President Kamala Harris as an “incoherent, incompetent, babbling, word-salad airhead” because she hasn’t scheduled a press conference when the Republicans demand it.

Has Kerr never listened to the inane ramblings of Donald Trump? And there’s the usual labeling as “socialist” or “communist” applied to liberals, when Republicans are the ones who don’t want to fund Ukraine’s defensive war against Russia and their felonious leader takes great pride in cozying up to Communist dictators like Putin and Kim Jong Un. Republicans are for family values, but against IVF and free lunches for kids, for a strong border but against the tough bipartisan border bill, for law and order but against Trump’s numerous convictions. And locally they’re against taxes but don’t want to pay fair tolls when crossing the new Interstate 5 Bridge. It makes one’s head spin.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
