CENTRAL PARK — On Aug. 2, a dozen Fort Vancouver Lions toured the LIFTT program building on the Washington State School for the Blind campus.
The LIFTT (Learning Independence For Today and Tomorrow) program is a residential program for young adults who have graduated from high school and want to learn and practice skills for adult independence.
The program was closed for the summer, so Lions had the freedom to walk through the program space. Dave Zilavy, the school’s facilities manager, led the tour, answered questions and provided anecdotal stories and information. He talked about the design and construction process and all the touches that make the building space a very functional and accessible space for learning skills of adult independence.
