KENNEWICK — When you think of Comic Con, you probably think of fans of science fiction, comic book character cosplays and movie stars meeting lifelong fans. You likely don’t think of eastern Washington representation at the iconic convention in San Diego.

But last month, a Tri-Cities-based film production company had its short film shown to attendees at the 2024 Comic Con.

The award-winning short film “Gamma Man” out of local company 2047 Productions found an all-new audience, showing a piece of Richland to Comic Con participants from all over.

Local short film “Gamma Man”

“Gamma Man” tells the story of Kevin, an incredibly shy young man who dreams of being a hero. He runs into his high school crush, Devyn, but finds he’s still too shy to ask her out. Their conversation is interrupted by thugs robbing the store, prompting Kevin to step up and save Devyn as his superhero alter ego, Gamma Man.

The short film was 2047 Productions’ eleventh piece, released in 2021. It was written and produced by Randy La Barge and Greg Martin, and directed by Nat Saenz. The cast includes Jantz Levin, Diana Milton, Corey Jenkins, Jr., Whitney Holland and others.

“Gamma Man” was filmed in a single day at Xenophile Bibliopole and Armorer, Chronopolis, a Richland bookstore specializing in Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror.

San Diego Comic Con Film Festival

The San Diego Comic Con has included an International Independent Film Festival for the past 23 years. This year, 57 films were screened, covering multiple genres from talent across the world.

“Gamma Man” was screened Saturday morning and considered for the Comic-Oriented award category.
