Clark County Public Health lifted an advisory at Lacamas Lake on Thursday after finding a bloom of cyanobacteria had dissipated, but it issued a warning advisory at Vancouver Lake due to elevated levels of cyanotoxins from harmful algae.

Cyanotoxins can be harmful to people, especially young children, and deadly for small pets that drink the water, according to a news release.

The warning signs posted at Lacamas Lake are being removed, but harmful algal blooms may return as conditions change, according to Public Health.

Warning signs went up at Vancouver Lake after water samples taken Monday showed cyanotoxins above the threshold levels recommended by the Washington State Department of Health. The county will test the water weekly.

Officials recommend: no swimming or water skiing, no water contact for animals, avoiding areas of scum in water, no drinking lake water, cleaning fish well and discarding fish organs.

Vancouver Lake Regional Park remains open.
