A suspect in an attempted abduction over the weekend at a central Vancouver park was arrested Tuesday afternoon, according to the Vancouver Police Department.

Michael McGlothlin of Vancouver is facing allegations of unlawful imprisonment and fourth-degree assault, police said.

According to a statement from Vancouver police, McGlothlin was identified as a suspect in the attempted abduction, which occurred at about 4 p.m. Sunday at Lieser Crest Park, 7510 Virginia Lane.

A man tried to grab an 11-year-old, but a witness intervened, and the man fled the park. The man was caught on video fleeing the area in a late-model SUV, police said.

The child did not know the man, police said.

The Vancouver Police Department Digital Evidence Cybercrime Unit was able to identify McGlothlin due in part to surveillance footage, which caught the SUV in areas around the park, according to police.

Police tracked McGlothlin to the area around Northeast 18th Street and 148th Avenue, where he was arrested about 4 p.m. Tuesday.

McGlothlin was driving a 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee, which was registered to a rental car company. McGlothlin was not the listed renter, police said.

He was booked into the Clark County Jail and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday afternoon.

The investigation is ongoing.
