Vancouver police are looking for the suspect in an attempted abduction of an 11-year-old on Sunday at a central Vancouver park.
According to a police department statement, a man tried to abduct the child about 3:40 p.m. from Lieser Crest Park in the Vancouver Heights neighborhood. A witness intervened and the man released the child. He then ran to a vehicle and fled the area, headed north on Fredericksburg Way toward Mill Plain Boulevard.
The child did not know the suspect.
The suspect is described as a man in his 20s or 30s, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and about 140 pounds. He has short brown hair and may have a short beard. He has hand and possibly stomach tattoos and was wearing a black hoodie and basketball shorts with red details and dark shoes.
The vehicle is described as a newer dark SUV, possibly a Jeep.
Security video captured the man getting out of the SUV with something in his hands. He returns later, running back to the SUV and drives off.
Anyone with information about the suspect should contact Vancouver police Detective Jason Nicholson at jason.nicholson@cityofvancouver.us or Detective James Dewey at james.dewey@cityofvancouver.us.
