Washington State University professor believes beer could save democracy

When people meet in person, instead of online, to discuss issues, finding common ground is easier

We live in an increasingly polarized society seeded by social media that encourages angry discourse. There are few opportunities for face-to-face political discussions with supporters of the rival party. Even when in a room together, civil discussion seems a thing of the past.

Michael Goldsby, associate professor of philosophy at Washington State University in Pullman, believes sitting down and sharing a drink may help.
