Letter: Protect girls sports

For over 60 years, I have registered as a Democrat. A conservative one, I might add. Recently, I emailed Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez concerning her position on biological males participating in biological women sporting activities. I received, in her reply, a couple of surprises. One being she voted against HR 734 and the reason she voted that way.

Her excuse centered around unnecessary physical examinations on girls as young as 5 years old. She further added the issue would be better decided at a local level than a national level. Upon receiving her reply, I looked up HR 734. After reading the bill, I saw nothing concerning examinations on 5-year-olds.

A team of biological girls should not have to compete against a team which includes biological boys participating as girls. I have a 7-year-old great-granddaughter and I want her to be able to compete on a level playing field. I urge all voters regardless of their political affiliation to look at this issue very seriously for we are headed for the total destruction of girls and women sporting activities, including Title IX.

Please, are we to sacrifice thousands of women/girls activities for a few biological males participating as females? Let’s try separate activities.
