State Highway 14 was closed overnight to all commercial vehicle traffic over 10,000 GVW between Evergreen Boulevard and the Hood River Bridge due to a wildfire near Hood River, Ore., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. It reopened this morning.

According to a statement late Tuesday night, Highway 14 was closed for 46 miles between Washougal and the Hood River Bridge because of a wildfire that forced Interstate 84 to close from Cascade Locks to the Hood River Bridge in Oregon.

The eastbound lanes of I-84 reopened Tuesday night along that stretch; the westbound lanes reopened this morning, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

According to Cascade Locks Fire and EMS, the wildfire started when a tractor-trailer hauling cardboard bales caught fire and spread into the wildland. The fire was estimated at about 2 acres around midnight.

About 4:30 a.m., Cascade Locks Fire told KATU that most of the fire was under control and the Oregon Department of Transportation was working to clean up the road. The Oregon Department of Forestry is mopping up fire, which will take most of the day.

A plethora of agencies, including the U.S. Forest Service and multiple fire agencies, assisted with the response.
