An Oregon man was injured Tuesday evening when he crashed his motorcycle into a cargo van while merging onto southbound Interstate 5 from westbound state Highway 14.

Shortly after 6 p.m., Ruben A. Arteaga, 35, of Gresham, Ore., struck Robert D. Fankhauser’s 2003 Ford cargo van while driving a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle, according to a Washington State Patrol crash memo.

Troopers cited improper lane travel and speed as the reasons for the crash.

Though Arteaga wore a helmet, medical personnel took him to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. Fankhauser, 79, of Portland wore a seat belt and was not injured, the crash memo states.

Troopers said charges against Arteaga are pending. It is unknown if drugs and alcohol were involved.
