Two teens are facing firearms allegations and resisting arrest after Clark County sheriff’s deputies apprehended the pair, along with the loaded weapons they had reportedly been carrying, Monday afternoon in the Orchards area, according to the sheriff’s office.

The teens, ages 13 and 14, face allegations of unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm and resisting arrest, according to a Monday night statement.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to Orchards Park near Fourth Plain Boulevard and Interstate 205 about 4:45 p.m. for a report of two teens pulling bandanas and a black handgun from a backpack, according to the statement.

When deputies arrived, multiple witnesses said they saw the teens and heard a gunshot from the north end of the mostly wooded park.

Deputies set up containment around the park. They spotted the teens running into the woods, heading west toward I-205. The teens were spotted walking north on the shoulder of the interstate. I-205 north was closed for a short time while a sheriff’s office drone was deployed.

Deputies tried to make contact with the teens but they ran back into the woods, this time heading east toward a neighborhood.

According to the sheriff’s office, the teens were then spotted in a backyard, shedding clothing.

Deputies took a male teen into custody in the driveway of a home without incident. A K-9 found the female teen after she was seen running along the fence line. She was also taken into custody without incident.

Deputies found two guns, both loaded, between the fence along I-205 and the home where the male teen was found. Clothing and other items were also recovered.

The teens were booked into the Clark County Juvenile Detention Hall.

There were no reports of injuries.
