Letter: Democrats happy with change

I have to respond to Etha Bohr’s letter to the editor (“Democrats threaten democracy,” Our Readers’ Views, Aug. 2). Here’s what I have to say: Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!

Her highly questionable concern about Democrats having been essentially disenfranchised by having their chosen candidate (Joe Biden) replaced with Kamala Harris is truly priceless. For starters, no intelligent person believes that anyone who supports Donald Trump is remotely concerned about the voting rights of Democrats. More important, every Democrat I know, myself included, is beyond thrilled that Kamala Harris will be our presidential nominee. No one feels that our primary vote was a throwaway.

Just to illustrate our enthusiasm, the Harris campaign brought in $310 million in donations during the 10-day period immediately following her candidacy announcement last month. Roughly two-thirds of those donations came from first-time donors. In contrast, the Trump campaign received a total of about $138 million in donations for the entire month.

I leave The Columbian’s readers to draw their own conclusions, and would like to reassure Bohr that she need not be concerned about us Democrats. We’re as happy as can be.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
