Letter: Wake up to transformation

Since Joe Biden’s departure from the upcoming presidential cycle, there has been a recapitulation in the evolving story of our nation. Yes, Kamala Harris has surprisingly ignited a fervor unseen in decades, but it has been Donald Trump’s and the GOP’s response that has been the catalyst to this transformation.

Trump’s feigned misunderstanding of DEI (at a recent panel discussion with Black reporters) clearly shows his personal Division, Enmity, and Intolerance program is washed up. Harris’ ethnicity is now a rusty cudgel, a redux of the Obama birther swipe. And most telling is the vice president choice, who once called Trump “Hitler.” When did self-loathing become a presidential quality?

Trump’s comment about illegal immigrants taking Black jobs away is a mixture of privilege and ignorance, a polemic that smells worse than a weekold washrag.

Driving in town the other day, I chanced to read a comment that millions of citizens are waking up to. On a bumper sticker, our cherished First Amendment shining through, “Evolve Dammit!”
