Letter: Republicans ignore protocol

The letter from James Ault (“Some in Congress are despicable,” Our Readers’ Views, July 31) is pretty rich coming from someone who regularly lauds Republicans.

First, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has now come to speak to (more like bully and harass) the U.S. Congress twice at the invitation of Republicans — not the president (a Democrat in both cases). That is a complete breach of protocol and an insult to the president and Netanyahu knows it. Second, Mr. Ault complains about Democratic members of Congress who “sat on their hands.” Let us harken back to Republican behavior at numerous State of the Union speeches by Democratic presidents. Not only do they refuse to applaud, but they heckle and interrupt during the speeches.

To use Mr. Ault’s term, if only we could “evict” the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene.
