Letter: Perez is best choice for Congress

By Kenneth Alexander, Camas
Published: August 7, 2024, 6:00am

The Columbian endorsed Leslie Lewallen as the Republican candidate best suited to be our U.S. representative (“In Our View: Perez, Lewallen best suited for Congress seat,” In Our View, July 13). The Columbian says she effectively distinguishes herself from the other Republican candidate, Joe Kent. I disagree. Lewallen and Kent are both supporters of former President Donald Trump. Electing either would give us a rabid MAGA representative.

I would be ashamed to have Lewallen represent me in Congress, just as I am ashamed that she represents me on the Camas City Council. Although Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez often bends to the MAGA mentality to appear “bipartisan,” she is a far safer choice than either Lewallen or Kent.
