Letter: Palestinians treated poorly

When England occupied Palestine, their justification for the occupation was that the Palestinian people were incapable of governing themselves. The Palestinians have always been second-class citizens, and a heathen unworthy of Jerusalem — much like the American Indian was unworthy of America. When the United Nations stole the land from these people, they did not care about how it would impact them. They were second-class citizens incapable of governing themselves.

In his July 31 letter (“Some in Congress are despicable,” Our Readers’ Views), James Ault claims that some Democrats should be ashamed of themselves for how they acted when Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu visited Congress. A man who is an alleged war criminal and complicit in the deaths of over 35,000 people, mostly women and children.

What world can we be living in when that number of innocent women and children are being killed and that not be evil? How can you blame a people for devaluing your women and children when their plight stems from being devalued in the first place? The greatest tragedy of this battle of evil versus evil is the amount of suffering caused by a metaphor.
