Weather Eye: Perfect ‘late summer’ weather is ahead this week

Monday’s weather felt much better to me, and one could tell the amount of moisture in the air had decreased and the dewpoint and humidity show that trend. Enough of that hot and humid stuff. This is the Pacific Northwest, keep our pleasant summer weather around a little longer. Sunday’s high was 92 degrees.

Today will be cooler with highs of 80ish or so and inch up a bit on Wednesday into the low to mid-80s with lower humidity and what I would call perfect late summer weather. Goodness, did I type “late summer”? Well, August is flying by, and September is only a few weeks away so, yeah summer is waning at a steady pace.

We get a rush of warmer air Thursday and Friday, and we shoot into the 90s and then hopefully back into the 80s over the weekend. From my point of view, it appears the middle of the month into the remaining days of August could actually be much cooler than what we have had and perhaps a rain shower once in a while. We’ll see, the old crystal ball is far too cloudy for me to make an accurate prediction.

Unstable monsoon moisture moved through the eastside of our state and also Oregon over the weekend with additional lightning strikes. There were reports of new wildfires scattered around the Northwest. Fortunately, we are doing better here on the west side of the Cascades.

As I sit and watch the sunsets each evening, the sun slides southward and notice how early the sun is setting. By the end of the month, it will set before 8 p.m. I ask myself if I am ready for the inevitable change of seasons. I don’t enjoy the days and days of hot weather but enjoy the pleasant weather and rainless days. Those rainy days will be with us soon enough.

What is your favorite season of the year? I enjoy autumn the best, I guess, and I’m sure many of you likewise. La Nina is slated for us this winter, which may give us more precipitation and a few cold spells. The mountains should fare well this year. With Thanksgiving arriving late in November this year, perhaps the ski season will be off and running.

Enjoy practically perfect weather today before we feel the heat again in a couple of days. Take good care.
