Letter: Bravo to Biden

In response to Vicki Coles’ letter disparaging President Joe Biden (“Democrats undermine democracy,” Our Readers’ Views, July 31), I have one brief comment. In 1796, President George Washington chose to not serve as president and stepped aside so his vice president, John Adams, could run instead. The 64-year-old was tired and frustrated by the attacks of his political enemies. Stepping aside was considered noble.

When Biden, 80, sick from COVID and over 50 years of public attacks by his political enemies, stepped aside for Vice President Kamala Harris, it was somehow a dirty trick. President Biden trusts Harris to carry on as the Democratic candidate in the 2024 election for president. He stepped aside because he was too tired and ill to continue. Bravo and thank you. I stand behind Harris for president.
