Letter: Perez lacks courage

By Bob Harper, VANCOUVER
Published: August 3, 2024, 6:00am

Page One of the July 26 Columbian reports, correctly, that Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez, D-Skamania, voted with the majority to condemn the immigration policies of the current administration, singling out President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris by name.

Left unmentioned anywhere in the story is the fact that Congresswoman Perez voted first with the Democrats to prevent the resolution from coming to the floor for a vote. Translation: Perez did not want to vote for the resolution, but after the attempt to prevent the vote failed, she jumped on board for purposes of political cover. Hardly a profile in courage.

A moderate? Well, compared to Pramila Jayapal, certainly, but too many of her votes have gone along with the progressive agenda to permit that description to stand.
