Letter: Thoughts about Trump shooting

By Linda Wallers, LAS VEGAS
Published: August 2, 2024, 6:00am

We are all saddened by the loss of life and severe injuries incurred by citizens attending the Trump rally on July 13. However, the presidential candidate and assumed target of the assassination attempt did not “almost lose his life” as claimed by Bill Fickett (“Stop extreme rhetoric,” Our Readers’ Views, July 24). The status of Trump’s injury, being so minor, is probably why no medical information has been released about the incident. If Americans knew how minor it was, Trump would be denied the mass sympathy he received.

It should be noted that President Joe Biden called the families of the injured and deceased, to give comfort, on the same day of the rally, but Mr. Trump did not contact the family of the deceased fire chief until four days after the rally. I could not find anything to tell when or if he contacted the injured and their families. This is the man that Mr. Fickett supports as he ignores the violent imagery and rhetoric used by Mr. Trump toward people who do not support him.
