Ridgefield City Council member and former mayor Jennifer Lindsay is resigning from her Position 6 seat effective Aug. 23.

According to a Thursday city of Ridgefield press release, Lindsay plans to focus on her education as she is planning to become an elementary school teacher, although she will remain active in the community.

Lindsay was appointed to the council in October 2018 to fill a midterm vacancy. In 2019, she was elected by voters to serve the remainder of the open term before being elected to a full term in 2021.

Lindsay, who moved to Ridgefield with her family in 2009, was chosen by the council to serve as mayor in 2022. While in office, she focused on preserving Ridgefield’s “small town feel” during a time of rapid growth, the release said.

Her time in office wasn’t without controversy. Many residents were shocked by the council’s 4-5 vote during a Jan. 11 meeting to replace Lindsay with Councilor Ron Onslow.

Under state law, the city council must appoint someone to the vacant seat within 90 days from Lindsay’s last day in office.

The term for Position 6 expires in 2025. Information about the appointment process and how to apply will be available by Aug. 23 at www.RidgefieldWa.us.
