A Stevenson man suspected of driving impaired crashed an SUV into the Washougal River Road roundabout Wednesday morning on state Highway 14, according to the Washington State Patrol.
The vehicle was traveling east on the highway shortly after 5 a.m. when it failed to negotiate the roundabout. It traveled into the middle, striking a guardrail and large stone pillars, trapping the two occupants inside, according to Trooper Will Finn.
The driver, Timothy A. Wear, 56, and his passenger, Jennifer A. Tolson, 44, of Vancouver, both suffered injuries that were not life-threatening. They were taken to a Portland hospital. Tolson suffered back and face injuries, Finn said. Neither was wearing a seat belt.
Troopers said they suspect Wear was impaired during the crash, and he is facing allegations of vehicular assault, DUI and third-degree driving with a suspended license.
