LONGVIEW — Former Lower Columbia College professor and counselor Mary Stone has released her first short story collection of historical fiction.

In “The Innocents at Home — Children of the 1940s,” Stone tells the story of war, internment, disease, loss, resiliency and normalcy amid the abnormality of childhood during this decade in the United States, Poland, Germany and France, a press release about the book states.

Stone researched for her book at the Longview Public Library during her Lower Columbia College lunch hours, then read old Life and Saturday Evening Post magazines on the weekends, the press release states.

The Castle Rock author says historical fiction lovers and baby boomers will enjoy the book, which can also be used in college or secondary school classes for English/history integrated studies.

The collection can be purchased in paperback or e-edition on Amazon.

Stone, who has faculty emeritus status at Lower Columbia College, continues to write at marystonewriter.com.
