Letter: Ridgefield road not ready for school

By Karen Johannes, Ridgefield

There are significant timing issues with Ridgefield Proposition 11. Proposition 11 funds a new 125,000-square-foot intermediate/middle school that will serve 500 to 650 students. The location of the school is Northeast 179th Street and Northeast 29th Avenue, with the estimated completion date of fall 2026.

From Interstate 5 east to 29th Avenue, 179th Street is a two-lane road with no shoulders or sidewalks. It is already overburdened with traffic and is dangerous. According to Clark County, 179th Street improvements, including widening the roadway, are scheduled to commence in fall 2028.

Shouldn’t the school district and Clark County work together on the timing of the road improvements and school construction?
