Letter: Examine science on PFAS

By Gene Couture, Vancouver
Published: April 19, 2024, 6:00am

I’ve seen many articles on PFAS (“Washington will move to tougher federal limits on ‘forever chemicals’ in tap water,” Washington State Standard, April 15).

The articles often reference the threats to humans from the accumulation of these forever chemicals.

What I have not seen is information about PFAS actually causing harm. I’ve seen information about the correlation of PFAS in diseased tissue, but no causal statements. It does seem that we are throwing a lot of money at this problem before the science is in.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
